Ronald “Sickie” Marcikic has coached Masters Swimming at UC San Diego since 1983, recently celebrating 40 years training swimmers on campus. An anonymous donor has given $1 million in his honor, setting up an inspirational challenge to name the Canyonview Aquatic Center pool in Sickie's honor.

Supporters donated a total of $565.7 million to the University of California San Diego during the 2022-23 fiscal year. This is the most ever raised by UC San Diego in a single year, and it represents a 34.6% percent increase over last year’s total philanthropic support.
